WHO ARE WE?

We are Shawnee First Church of God.  We are part of the Churches of God, General Conference located originally in Harrisburg, PA and now headquartered in Findlay, OH.  This description is probably less than helpful because the Churches of God, General Conference is very small... around 35,000 worldwide.  (Compare this with the nearly 250,000 United Methodist members in the 58-county West Ohio Conference alone and you get the picture).  Some of our churches embrace liturgy some don't.  There are city churches, country churches, upbeat churches, quiet and reflective churches, progressive churches and old-fashioned churches.  Our differences do not matter.  However, our common bond to love Jesus and help others to do the same does matter.  

While our church finds value in all of the above styles, we lean more on the contemporary, upbeat, non-liturgical side of the spectrum... although there are probably elements of all the above in our worship from time to time.  Our worship music is upbeat, the preaching is Bible-based and relevant, the community life is diverse, and some of our values could be described as progressive while some could be described as old-fashioned... hopefully, in the best sense of the term.  My best description is that we are a church and part of a denomination that is continually embracing the many different ways to express devotion to Jesus and helping others to do the same.
